Exams Access Arrangements are adjustments made before examinations to ensure students with additional needs can access assessments fairly, without changing what is being tested.
These can include support such as extra time, a reader, a scribe, rest breaks or the use of assistive technology, depending on a student's individual needs and their normal way of working.
Access arrangements must be applied for by the school and are based on evidence of need and normal classroom practice.
Independent assessment can support this process, but decisions are made in line with current JCQ regulations and school evidence.
